EDC Las Vegas

Pros vs. Cons?

As the summer begins to ramp up to full intesity, many festival goers and music lovers continue to seek new and improved ways of listening to the latests tunes, while also enjoying their summer months. Year after year, the heavy hitters in the EDM festival scene seem to bring out all of the stops for another edition of their unique spectacles. From the woods of Michigan in the United States (Electric Forest) to the shores of Croatia (Ultra Europe), people seem to find their peace amongst thounsands of other screaming fans, LED lightshows and fireworks! In the desert of Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) one of the biggest names in the electronic music scene was set to wow the world with its 21st yearly edition of Electric Daisey Carnival, or EDC, but did it live up to their lasting expectations?

The festival has continued to deal with struggle after struggle, from transportation issues, scheduling issues, and even the ever hovering venue issue (Las Vegas Motor Speedway), so they have become no stranger to problem solving. However, this year seemed to hinder alot of festival goers to an extended level. Some individuals were reported on waitiing over 4 hours to return home from the venue grounds just outside the city, while others were not impressed by frequent technical difficulties. Some even go as far as to say the visual effects and production level was a major let down and even one of the music scenes major "icons", DJ Khaled, was supposedly booed off stage for technical issues and an over all sub par performance.

Having had a member of our staff in attendance we must admit that there were infact some shining moments to the weekeend. About 400,000 "headliners" were reported to visit the festival over the June weekend with some of the biggest names on the turntables still dropping major sets, such as Hardwell, Marshmello, Tiesto, Will Sparks, and many others. The festival even seemed to make an effort to reach out to the growing Hip Hop/EDM vibe with performances from DJ Khaled and Metro Boomin, who brought out the global star, Drake, for a surprise guest appearance for the century! Traffic did improve over the weekend and the race track proved once again that it is a premier and legendary venue in the game, but once again Pasquale Rotella (festival Founder) is forced to weigh the pros and cons of the event.

As the festival came to a close their have been rumors of change of venue, change or date of event and even worse cancellation altogether! But is this enough to shut down one of the biggest names in the game? For those who truly love the EDM scene, Electric Daisey is a haven, a destination, a check mark on the bucket list... but is that enough to keep one of the longest lasting festival weekends going for another 20 years? As the EDM buzz seems to be platueing, it becomes clear that only time will tell...
